Lindsey's Skyward(TM) Bald Cypress PPAF

Naturally Dwarf Lindsey's Skyward™ Bald Cypress Ideal for Modern Landscapes

Widely adaptable and without knees, new Garden Debut® Taxodium is sized right for modern properties.

Lindsey’s Skyward™ Bald Cypress is much more versatile and better-behaved than the typical Taxodium. The dense, narrow spire has soft, rich-green foliage that is delightful to the touch. New growth in spring is leaf green, changing to a rich dark green in summer. By autumn, the fine, almost feathery needles change to an outstanding copper/cinnamon color and hold for weeks, before branchlets fall. In winter, beautifully tiered, upward-facing branches give the small tree added elegance and character, while the textured bronzy bark adds winter interest.

At 16 years in the originator’s landscape, Lindsey’s Skyward™ Bald Cypress has attained only 20 feet in height and 6 feet in width. If further reduction in size is required, the deciduous conifer can be kept even smaller and narrower with hard late-winter pruning.

Known to thrive in full sun on moist soils, Lindsey’s Skyward™ can also be grown under dry conditions. It is widely adaptable for northern and southern areas, withstanding winter temperatures of -20 degrees to -10 degrees Fahrenheit in USDA Zone 5.

Lindsey’s Skyward™ has a non-aggressive root system with no surface roots or knees. This cultivar has never shown any sign of disease or insect infestation, and is tough, hardy, and exceedingly resistant to ice storm stress thanks to its strong wood and branch angles.

The beauty of this dwarf conifer is its versatility in the modern landscape. Houses are designed with lowered windows and more glass and doors on more compact lots. The view to the outdoors is increasingly important. In order to retain the proper scale while providing greater horticultural interest, newer landscapes contain more varieties of plants. Thus, the popularity of dwarf and fastigiate cultivars is continually increasing, and Lindsey’s Skyward™ is both.

Whether an anchor for mixed plantings with seasonal changes, or grouped with other dwarf conifers to contrast and compliment in eye catching displays, Lindsey’s Skyward™ adds color, form and texture to large landscapes or small in-town lots.
